Review Policy

The Indian Journal of Legal Affairs and Research (IJLAR)
Effective Date: 1 December 2024

This Review Policy outlines the process followed by IJLAR to assess manuscripts submitted for possible publication. The aim is to ensure a fair, timely and constructive evaluation of scholarly work.

1. Initial Editorial Screening

All manuscripts are first examined by the editorial team to assess:

  • Relevance to the scope and objectives of the journal.
  • Basic quality of writing, structure and argumentation.
  • Compliance with submission guidelines and ethical policies.

Manuscripts that do not meet minimum requirements may be declined at this stage, often with brief editorial comments.

2. Peer Review

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are ordinarily sent for review. IJLAR endeavours to follow a double-blind review process, wherever feasible, so that:

  • Reviewer identities are not disclosed to authors.
  • Author identities are not disclosed to reviewers, as far as practicable.

Reviewers are requested to provide objective and constructive comments on originality, relevance, methodology, clarity and contribution to the field.

3. Recommendations and Decisions

Based on reviewer feedback and editorial assessment, a manuscript may receive decisions such as:

  • Accept (with or without minor revisions).
  • Revise and resubmit (major revisions required).
  • Reject (not suitable for publication in its current form).

The final decision rests with the editorial team, which may depart from individual reviewer recommendations where justified, with due consideration.

4. Timelines

While timelines can vary depending on reviewer availability and manuscript complexity, IJLAR aims to communicate an initial editorial or review-based decision within a reasonable period.

5. Confidentiality

Manuscripts under review are treated as confidential documents. Reviewers are expected not to share or use any information in the manuscript for personal advantage or unrelated work.

6. Appeals and Clarifications

Authors who have substantive concerns about the review process may write to the editorial team seeking clarification. While decisions may not always be reversed, genuine concerns will be examined in good faith.

This policy may be updated over time to reflect refinements in review processes and best practices.
